Make efficient choices work harder — before the window closes
Eligible Massachusetts new-construction, renovation and addition projects may qualify for Mass Save incentives — but enrollment has to happen while the project is still in progress, not after it finishes.
How the incentive actually reaches you
Incentives are paid through a participating HERS rater. That rater models the home, verifies the required measures, performs the inspections and testing, and submits the project documentation to the program.
Once the final inspection is processed and the project is submitted, the program issues a completion notice by email. Payment follows by mail, and current program guidance puts that at roughly twelve to fourteen weeks after submission.
Clients who follow the recommendations often find the incentive offsets a meaningful share of what the rating itself cost.
Enroll before the midpoint inspection. This is the deadline most projects miss. Once the walls close, the options narrow sharply.
What the support covers
- Review eligibility and prepare the registration when a project qualifies.
- Build the baseline and proposed energy models.
- Recommend practical efficiency upgrades and document the qualifying measures.
- Complete the required insulation, final and performance inspections.
- Submit the completed documentation for incentive processing.
Program reference documents
Worth reading before you assume a project qualifies — particularly the sponsor list, since a town without an electric program sponsor changes the picture entirely.

Read it on Mass SaveEligibility and incentive amounts depend on the utility sponsor, project type, energy savings, equipment and electrification level. Additions generally have to meet all-electric requirements to qualify, and renovation eligibility differs. Program rules change, so every project should be reviewed individually before construction begins. Reviewed August 2026 against Mass Save.
